In The End
Keith Michael Roberts, copyright 1972 - .
And so once again time has burned another friend,
communication's end is a sigh.
And you're running out of those reasons to try,
when it winds down to the telephone good-bye.
Now you're falling like the tear from your eye,
and ending with a silent good-bye.
As the seasons fly away,
and the feelings fold and fall,
there are so few that you could call your friend.
There is no one at all in the end.
So your smile begins to fade like the razor from the blade,
too tired and afraid to remain
in the battle for the beauty and the blame,
where love becomes a weapon, then a shame.
Now you're flying on some silver jet plane
from the unfinished song of her name.
As the seasons come again,
and the memories fold and fall,
there are so few that you could call your friend.
There is no one at all in the end.
When it comes down to you and the feelings that are true,
you're as confused and as blue as the sea.
On the other hand, it comes down to me,
and the prison that I put on to be free.
Oh my lady of the moon,
could you really lose your love so soon?
As September turns to June,
and a lifetime folds and falls,
there are so few that you can call your friend.
There is no one at all in the end.
